G, Is Something Missing?

We'll forgive the lack of punctuation. But was the situation so urgent "emergency" had to lose its G?

(We also sort of wonder if there are stairs besides the "exit stairs." Are there entrance ones? Are they reminding people to go toward the exit to get out of the building, instead of toward, say, the roof? Sometimes, one can over-explain. Sort of like we're doing right here.)
Thanks to Mike Clark for the photo.

"Exit stairs" probably is just silly in this case, but it certainly can be real, and worth reminding people of. Some buildings have multiple sets of stairs, and not all of them lead outside.[1] In such cases, it's useful to tell people to look for the ones with the red "EXIT" signs (in the U.S.; I note that in Europe, emergency exits are marked with green signs, not red ones).

[1] As opposed to "all of them don't lead outside," which is not the same thing at all.

(Hm. The CAPTCHA on this comment post is "explativ". Damn!)
