Some buildings have multiple sets of stairs, and not all of them lead outside.[1] In such cases, it's useful to tell people to look for the ones with the red "EXIT" signs (in the U.S.; I note that in Europe, emergency exits are marked with green signs, not red ones).<br /><br />---<br />[1] As opposed to "all of them don't lead outside," which is not the same thing at all.<br /><br /><br />(Hm.
